About Dr.Hauschka Skin CareA Unique and Natural Approach to Health and BeautyNothing is more personal than the choices you make in caring for yourself. Dr.Hauschka preparations respect the body's natural rhythms, working with these processes to restore balance and bring about lasting beauty. Dr.Hauschka believes that when individuals feel healthy and balanced, they are better able to care for others and the planet on which they live. Pioneering holistic pharmaceutical company WALA Heilmittel was founded over seventy years ago to help to advance chemist Dr. Rudolf Hauschka's mission "to heal humanity and the earth." In 1967, WALA introduced Dr.Hauschka Skin Care, a revolutionary approach based on the understanding that beauty results from skin health. Dr.Hauschka Skin Care preparations and facial treatment methods are specifically formulated to restore beauty by working with the skin to support its own natural processes of renewal. Benefits for your skin—and our planet. For over forty-three years, Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products, signature facial treatments and business practices have been based on a "holistic" philosophy. Dr.Hauschka formulations are based on an understanding of the way skin works and its relationship with overall health, the goal being skin that is balanced and able to perform its natural functions without dependence upon a slew of products. A Dr.Hauschka Skin Care regimen works best when part of a healthy lifestyle supported by diet, exercise and contemplative practice. All of these factors help to reconnect us with our natural rhythms, and have a profound effect on skin health and beauty. All are a part of Dr.Hauschka's holistic approach. But just what is it we mean when we talk about being holistic? The simple answer is that we always keep the big picture in mind. When it comes to any one action we take or any one decision we make, we take the time to look at the repercussions and ramifications it may have on our skin, our health, our communities and planet:
The History of RemediesIf one day we understand the rhythms of nature, this
will be natural science in its truest form. Study rhythm. Rhythm carries life. Among the many contributions Dr. Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) made to the world was a holistic approach to life he called Anthroposophy. It’s an exhaustive worldview; over the course of his career, Steiner wrote more than 30 books and delivered more than 6,000 lectures exploring the worlds of science and spirit using a methodical approach that opened up new perspectives in fields as diverse as education, art, economics, agriculture and medicine. Anthroposophic medicine focuses on balancing the mind, body and spirit. The ultimate goal is to support and encourage the body’s own ability to heal from within. Anthroposophic medicine is an integrated approach, an extension of -- not a replacement for -- mainstream medicine. In 1924, Viennese chemist Dr. Rudolf Hauschka (1891-1969) traveled to the Netherlands to attend the Anthroposophic summer conference in Arnheim. He was intrigued by Dr. Steiner’s insights into the natures of science and spirit, and over the course of several conversations he asked the founder of anthroposophy just what, in his opinion, life was. Steiner answered: “Study rhythm. Rhythm is the carrier of life.” Dr. Hauschka contemplated Steiner’s words for several years. In 1929, he was invited by Anthroposophic physician Dr. Ita Wegman to join her at the Clinical and Therapeutic Institute in Arlesheim, Switzerland. At that time, Anthroposophic pharmacists and physicians were experimenting with medicines comprised of homeopathically potentized extracts of healing plants, but the only way to create a stable extract was by using alcohol. Drs. Wegman and Hauschka hoped to develop a natural technique for manufacturing medicines without using alcohol as a preservative. Inspired by Steiner’s words, Dr. Hauschka began integrating rhythmic changes to the extraction process. He submerged botanicals in water and rhythmically exposed them to the polar extremes of light/dark, warm/cold, movement/calm in a process that enhanced natural preservation by helping to counter the decomposition process. This “rhythmical processing” method succeeded in creating stable watery botanical extracts without the use of alcohol or artificial preservatives. Recognizing the vast potential of this rhythmic processing method, Hauschka and his associates founded a pharmaceutical company in 1935 for the formulation and manufacture of remedies based on the traditions of homeopathy and Anthroposophic medicine, named WALA (Warmth-Ash-Light-Ash) Heilmittel (remedies). WALA’s founders considered it their mission to improve the health and well-being of humanity through high-quality natural medicines based on Anthroposophic principles. Americans already familiar with Dr.Hauschka Skin Care recognize the transformative nature of those dynamic preparations. It’s no surprise that such a therapeutic skin care line would have sprung from WALA’s long tradition of quality, purity and superior efficacy in the manufacture of holistic remedies. In manufacturing medicines and personal care products, WALA uses the highest quality raw materials and advanced technology in sterile laboratory conditions to ensure purity and efficacy. Advanced research methods and state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques enhance WALA’s decades-long experience in producing stable, rhythmitised plant extracts.
